Hello, my name is Kate Gray, and I am the creator of Terra Bella Box. This idea was born out of a need and a passion.
The need was simple–find beauty products to replace all of the store-bought products on my bathroom shelves that were full of chemicals, that may or may not be tested on animals, and that only serve to profit huge corporations.
My skin is very sensitive–I have allergies and eczema and I’ve found that sticking with natural ingredients is my best bet.
Buying products from small (women and minority-owned, whenever possible) businesses is also important to me. I believe strongly in supporting the local economy.
As a woman who has started my own small business, I have seen first-hand the disadvantages that women face in the business world. I want to do my part to support women who are trying to make a living making the products that they are so passionate about. When you support Terra Bella Box, you are supporting my family and the families of all the small business owners who handcraft their products. That matters to me a great deal.
As someone who lives in the Midwest, I also know that it can be quite difficult to find handcrafted products readily. There just simply aren’t boutiques on every corner and the internet and handmade product websites can be overwhelming in their sheer number. I thought how great it would be if there was a service that would just find the best products for me and send them to my door–and thus, Terra Bella Box was born.
I am a product junkie. I love having a product for every facet of my beauty routine. My goal in curating my boxes is to fill your cabinets with every type of product you might need. I look at it as a tool box, and every month you add new tools–which to me is incredibly exciting. I am a kid in a candy store when I find products for my box that I want to try. I can’t wait to share them all with you!
Which brings me to the second part of Terra Bella Box’s birth–the passion. Ever since I was old enough to remember, I’ve had an eye for curation. Whether it was putting together my doll’s wardrobe to match the seasons, making mix tapes, or decorating my room–I’ve always found the greatest joy in putting things together in a meaningful way.
As an adult, I’ve been lucky enough to work as an editor in an office where I could also act as the campaign coordinator for a large charity. Every year my big fundraiser was holding a gift basket silent auction, and I was the sole creator of each gift basket. It became an obsession. I’d spend all year picking up items to go into various gift baskets–and in so doing, raised a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause. I don’t know how many times I had people tell me over the years that I should make gift baskets for a living. “If only!” I would say.
When I discovered subscription boxes, it was my “Eureka!” moment. Here was an opportunity to bring together my need and my passion, and to share it with the world. Please know that I have poured my heart into every single box that you receive. I hope that you love them as much as I do.
All my best,
